Designed during a class called Experimental Form in which I took an unconventional approach to designing an everyday object.
I was very interested in playing with pattern
association as it relates to time. After a week of testing I found that replacing
numbers with colors provided the same at-aglance
information as clock hands.

I had never worked with such tight tolerances or on a product of this scale. I 3D printed 6 bodies over a period of 3 weeks in order to reach a design I was both happy with, and one that worked.
At first I was interested in simply making an unconventional form, but later became more intrigued by the idea of playing with one’s interpretation of time itself. With most analog watches associations between spatial patterns of the hour and minute hands quickly communicate time. The relationship between the two hands create visual heuristics for representing time. I felt a unique relationship could be built with this watch by substituting spatial patterns for color patterns.
